BUILDING A LOOP
Q: I’m new to liquid cooling. Where do I start?
A: At minimum you need a pump and reservoir, a CPU water block, a radiator with fans, tubing, fittings and coolant. The pump + reservoir combo and the Xtreme-X pre-fitted case are the easiest starting points. Our blog has a beginner’s guide to building your first loop.
Understanding Your Cooling Loop Flow

Basic PC liquid cooling loop diagram showing coolant flow
A custom liquid cooling loop relies on a continuous, closed-circuit flow to transfer heat away from your high-performance components. Follow the numbered steps below to see how coolant circulates through your system:
Reservoir: Acts as the central holding tank, storing the coolant and feeding a steady supply into the system while trapping air bubbles.
Pump: The heart of the loop, pressurizing and driving the coolant continuously through the entire circuit.
CPU Block: Directly absorbs heat generated by your processor as coolant flows through its micro-channel cold plate.
Radiator: Passes the heated coolant through finned tubes where cooling fans dissipate the heat out of your PC case.
Back to Reservoir: The cooled liquid returns to the reservoir, ready to repeat the cycle and keep your temperatures optimal.
